Blended Learning Instructor Course

The American Heart Association (AHA) requires that instructors be at least 18 years of age and licensed or certified in a healthcare occupation where the skills are within the provider’s scope of practice.

This two-day course certifies individuals to teach AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses. It prepares instructors to lead both instructor-led and blended learning sessions designed for healthcare professionals who manage pediatric respiratory, cardiovascular emergencies, and cardiopulmonary arrest.

PALS Instructors are authorized to teach PALS Provider courses and are expected to have an in-depth understanding of pediatric emergency care. This course focuses on teaching and assessing PALS skills, rather than performing them. PALS instructor candidates must be PALS providers with significant clinical experience and a background in EMS education (e.g., MD, RN, Paramedic, AK-AEMT, EMT-3).

You are required to return the following day to teach a PALS class, where your teaching performance will be evaluated for certification. If for some reason it is not possible for you to attend the second day, please reach out to the IREMSC Training Coordinator to make other arrangements for you to be monitored.

Precourse Requirements:

1. You must have a current AHA PALS Provider card.
2. Purchase and complete the PALS Instructor Essentials online course separately through AHA's website at https://shopcpr.heart.org/courses/instructor-essentials.
