Course Description: The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course teaches participants to provide first aid, perform CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively. This is an 5-hour in-person class.
Who Can Enroll: The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.
Class Format: IREMSC BLS Provider courses include a blend of AHA presentations, guided discussion, and hands-on practice with scenarios aimed at improving patient outcomes. Students must be physically capable of performing high-quality chest compressions. The class covers these topics:
- First aid basics
- Medical emergencies
- Injury emergencies
- Environmental emergencies
- Preventing illness and injury
- Adult CPR and AED use
- Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies
- Optional modules in Child CPR AED and Infant CPR
Pre-Course Work: There is no precourse work required for this class.
Outcomes: Within 72 hours of successful completion of the class, you will receive BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association, that is valid for two years.
