Blended Learning Instructor Course

The American Heart Association (AHA) requires that instructors be at least 18 years of age to teach Heartsaver and BLS courses.

This two day course certifies individuals to teach AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Heartsaver CPR and First Aid courses.

• BLS Instructors are authorized to teach both BLS and Heartsaver courses.
• Heartsaver Instructors are authorized to teach Heartsaver courses ONLY.

Participants are expected to have a thorough understanding of CPR concepts and skills prior to the course, as the class focuses on how to teach AHA courses.

It is optional but encouraged  to return the next day to teach a CPR class, where your performance will be monitored for certification.  If you are unable to attend the second day you may work with our Training Department for the option to be monitored in our regularly scheduled CPR Courses. You will have 6 months from the completion of the CPR Instructor course to be monitored.

Precourse Requirements

1. You must have a current AHA provider card in the discipline you plan to teach (BLS or Heartsaver CPR FA AED).
2. Separately purchase and complete a BLS or Heartsaver Instructor Essentials self-directed online course on AHA's website at https://shopcpr.heart.org/courses/instructor-essentials. 
3. Instructor Essentials certificate and current, non-expired CPR provider card must be provided via email to training@iremsc.org within 5 days from the registration date. If no documents are provided, you will be automatically dropped from the class.
